RANGERS will take part in the prestigious Florida Cup tournament in January 2018.
Pedro Caixinha’s side will head to America during the winter break to prepare for the second half of the domestic campaign and the Light Blues will join Colombia’s Atlético Nacional. Other participating teams will be announced later today.
The tournament which starts on January 10 will feature teams from Europe and South America, with Rangers set to play two games.
Full details on the match schedule, other clubs competing and the format will be revealed by the organisers in due course.
Bundesliga outfit FC Cologne won the inaugural Florida Cup in 2015, Atlético Mineiro were triumphant in 2016 with São Paulo and German side Wolfsburg winning trophies in 2017.
Rangers Manager Pedro Caixinha commented: “Rangers Football Club is delighted to take part in such a prestigious tournament.
“The Florida Cup will provide top class opposition for us during the winter shutdown in Scotland and the warm weather training in America will be a huge benefit ahead of the second half of our domestic campaign. It will be a great experience for our players.”
Florida Cup CEO Ricardo Villar commented: “We are excited to kick off a World Cup year with some of the world’s leading clubs and stars playing right here in our backyard.
