RANGERS are delighted to confirm today that Jamie Murphy has joined the club on a permanent contract.

Murphy joined the club in January on loan and has now penned a three-year contract at the Club for an undisclosed fee.

The Scottish international signed for the Gers on loan on January 6th and immediately Joined the rest of the squad on their mid-season trip to play at the Florida Cup.

Murphy made his competitive debut for the Light Blues against Aberdeen in the same month before scoring his first Gers goal in February against Ayr United in the Scottish Cup.

The winger has played nineteen matches for the club, scoring 5 goals, including one against Hearts at the end of February which was voted Goal of the Year by fans, his first at Ibrox.

Speaking to the club website, Murphy said: “I’m delighted to make my move to Rangers permanent. This club means a lot to me and it already feels like home.

“Whilst I’m naturally disappointed we didn’t complete the objectives that we set for ourselves last season, I am more determined than ever to help this club to be a success.

“With the new manager in place, two new signings confirmed already and an exciting summer to follow, I can’t wait to get started on the next chapter of my Rangers career.”

Gers manager Steven Gerrard added: “It’s more good news for the club that Jamie has committed his future to us ahead of the new campaign.

“He had an impressive start to his Rangers career in the second half of last season and we hope to see him continue to grow at the club next season and beyond.”

Hopefully a lot more to offer next season.

I think he takes a lot of attention from opposition defences and that should create chances for others. On the whole, there could be a lot worse coming here over the near future.

Not overjoyed about this. Always found that had had the ability to run past folk out on the left but either ended up cutting inside then going on a merry wander across the field because he couldn't get the ball out of his feet, pick a pass or hit a shot.

The other angle I have on that is once he hits the line and gets about level with the 18 yard box he starts to slow down in order to check back on to his right foot. That can sometimes lead on to 4,5 or 6 touches once he's on his favoured foot, while he looks for a cross or waits for the overlap. Completely takes the momentum out of the attack when he does that.

On the plus side, IF we're going to go for a 2 up top (which I doubt) he should have an easier choice to make in terms of where he's to deliver the ball thus, hopefully shortening the time he spends looking for options.

Also, not over keen on the fact he seems a bit timid. He was never in the games when we played the filth the last couple of times and was a nervous wreck! If a brawl were to break out I'd have my house on Murphy being the one standing at the back pretending to himself he's ready to pounce on someone ....... I just don't think he's got the needle in his game or the bottle when the going gets tough.

Personally, wouldn't have signed him. We can get by with his ability but it's his strength of character that worries me.

Many moons ago he'd have fitted in well as a squad player but given that we're reported to have paid £1.2m I'd think he'll be a big part in the starting 11.

Wouldn't surprise me if we tried to sign someone with pace and depending on the formation push Murphy inside a bit.
He's got decent control and can pick a pass.

Defo need to see more from him next season, if we hadn’t signed him I probably wouldn’t have got too upset, for a winger he defo cuts inside far too often, but I do think with a better level of player in the squad there’s room for improvement.

I think he’ll do us a turn over the course of a season.
