GRAEME MURTY has paid tribute to the incredible support given to Rangers by their 14,000 supporters at BT Murrayfield yesterday.
The caretaker manager was thrilled with the backing given to his players throughout the 90 minutes, and called on them to continue supporting the club in a similar manner.
He explained: “It was incredible and it was amazing to see. When you come out and you hear that sound, it must give the players a lift and make them realise the stature of the club they play for.
“If we can get them to understand what we are trying to do and the direction we want to take the club in, then it is like having an extra player.
“They are that passionate, they are that positive and if we can get them positive at all times then it is only good for the players and I would encourage all the fans just to remain in that positive mindset as what you saw was the players putting a proper shift in today, they stood up and I am really pleased for them going and getting that result.”
Murty received a terrific personal ovation at full-time too, and on that, he said: “It is. I’ve been absolutely slaughtered for it in the changing room though! Somehow, I’ve got a really good reputation at the moment.
“I’m not really precious about it, but the regard and the positivity I get from the people I see and meet has to be addressed, and when you go and you hear that, it means a great deal to me as a professional and as a person.
“But you have to go and recognise that and say thank you. It’s not easy being a fan of a football club – we understand it is hard and there are dark times and good times.
“But to show that level of support and come all the way through here was fantastic for the players and myself.”
