PROMISING defender Aidan Wilson has signed a contract extension which will keep him at Ibrox until 2020.
The 18-year-old who made his first-team debut last season has been awarded with the additional year after breaking into the senior set-up.
The Scotland under-19 signed an extension until 2019 back in May but this new deal secures his services for a further year, highlighting the academy’s confidence in him.
Wilson played twice for the first team last term, starting games against Aberdeen and St Johnstone in May. Now he is targeting a long term future with his boyhood club.
Speaking to RangersTV Wilson smiled: “I was delighted to sign, it was back and forth but I was so pleased to get the deal done and move forward.
“I obviously played a couple of games last season and the club want to try and keep me for a longer period of time which I was more than happy with. I am happy to be playing at the club even longer.
“When Rangers come to you and offer you another year not many players would turn that down. I am really looking forward to my future at the club and I just have to keep working hard.
“I think I have improved a lot just in the short period of time since my last extension. A lot of the parts of my game I wanted to work on I have improved on.
“I have learnt from training with the experience of being with the first-team and all I can do is keep going round to train with them, working hard, learning things from the players and then hopefully my chance will come.
“I feel that the more I am round with the first-team the more I am learning and the more I am becoming a better player.
“I try and do my best away from the club, eat well, sleep well and stretch. Whatever I do I always make sure I am ready and best prepared to do the business out there.”
In addition to his appearances last season, the Development Squad star has trained with the first-team consistently this season and is raring to go if called upon again.
He continued: “I just have to be ready for whatever happens, there were a couple of injuries last season that gave me the chance and I was ready to take it.
“If the same happens this season then I just need to do the same, be ready and hope that the manager puts me in.
“I think we have some great centre-halves ahead of me, there is a lot of experience and youth in there but I just have to bide my time and hope the manager puts his trust in me.
“Even last season there was faith shown in the young boys with Myles Beerman, Jamie Barjonas, myself and even Ross McCrorie playing this season.
“Bruno is very professional, you learn a lot from his demeanour as well, how he conducts himself and how he is around the place.
“He is always working hard but he is quite quiet. He works so hard and you can see how he has got to where he’s got to.
“I have had a couple of chats with him and he has helped me on a few occasions, positional work and just making sure I am in the right place. He has been very good with me.”
