GRAEME MURTY reckons more Rangers players can follow Ryan Jack into the Scotland squad – but only if they find a high level of consistency.
The former Scotland international was delighted to see Jack included in the pool to play the Netherlands at Pittodrie next Thursday – and reckons more have it in them to make the step up.
He told RangersTV: “I think so, but what they have to be is excellent every time they walk onto the pitch.
“We congratulate Ryan and I have spoken to him – he has had a consistent level and people have known about him for a long time. But it is up to the other people who perhaps aren’t doing that to go and make themselves impossible to ignore.
“They can do that by having a consistently high standard, and if we can have enough of those doing that on a consistently high basis, then we could really, really push on.
“Both them as individuals and us as a team – you never know what could happen.”
Murty again took the opportunity to praise the 14,000-plus Gers fans who made the trip through to the Capital on Saturday, and believes their loyalty deserves to be repaid.
He added: “It’s on a whole different scale to anything I’ve ever experienced. To have 14,000 people come to an away game, and you see on social media the lengths people go to in order to come to games – the times they get up and the distance they travel – they deserve a team that are going to be successful and they deserve a team that are going to sustain success, and they deserve good performances.
“They deserve a team showing a character, a desire and a flair that Rangers teams need to exhibit on a game by game basis.
“I said it at the game – that regard from supporters should never be taken for granted – it has to be earned every single time you go out and that is something I was conscious of as a player, and I am more conscious of it now as it is magnified to such a scale by the level of support.
“I know that level of support brings a degree of pressure, and I know that it puts a demand on the players, and I said to Ross McCrorie as he walked out that it must be brilliant playing for his childhood team with that level of support and that level of demand behind you, as then, you are going to see they type of person you really are.”
