Another flat underwhelming performance over the 90 minutes .The first half we were nervy at the back and although we did create a chance or two, nothing clear cut as we were pretty toothless .Second half we were dominated by Saints for the first twenty minutes or so without giving up any real chances before coming into the game more as an attacking force . Overall there were a couple of decent performances , lots of poor ones and one outstanding one in my opinion.
Butland kept us in the game early on with some great stops and one absolutely brilliant one to stop us going 2-1 down , second half he was a bit quieter and of course picked up a ridiculous booking .
Tavernier , nearly gave away another early goal then turned in another nervy defensive performance ,had one decent shot and a free kick saved and then produced a brilliant cross for the winner.
Barisic , an overhit cross helped set up the opener but that apart he just seemed to be doing enough to get by , crossing was wayward and generally looked disinterested . Average at best .
Balogun , started nervously, got caught out at Saints goal .Improved a lot in the second half , won a few headers and made two or three really good and crucial tackles .
Souttar , another who just seemed to be getting through the game , made some interceptions but just headed and cleared the ball anywhere, no composure and very rarely broke out from the back.
Lundstram , good first half , all over midfield trying to get reaction from others , had a couple of efforts at goal too .Sat deeper second half and as a result had less influence but still decent.
Diomande , set up first goal by retrieving a poor cross but that apart was poor and did nothing , slack in possession and gave the ball away with poor control and passing . Poor again .
Sterling , as always put in a good shift on the wing without too much success ,switched to left back late on and again but worked hard for the team. Doesn`t look comfortable as a winger .
Cantwell ,as usual worked hard around midfield trying to link with others and create space ,set up Silva twice and missed two decent chances second half of his own , was always a threat.
Silva , totally useless , was easily dispossessed and wasted good passing opportunities, had two chances but was far too slow in pulling the trigger .No wonder Wolves are hawking him around.
Dessers , very quiet first half but got more involved second half when he was linking better , took his chance when it came and set up Lawrence for what should have been a third .Did his job.
McCausland , worked hard closing down when he came on but never got the chance to do any attacking , seems low in confidence.
Lawrence , first couple of touches he lost the ball easily, had a nice run but then wasted the shot before failing to finish decisively when he had a chance to score the third. Sloppy.
Wright , lost a couple of tackles then fell down holding his ankle when under no pressure , filled a shirt but did nothing else.
I thought Lundstram had a really good first half but quiet second , Cantwell was busy throughout and Dessers got us the points but my MOTM was Jack Butland , his saves in the first half kept us in the game when we were rocking a bit , not for the first time this season . He is the outstanding candidate for me.
