RANGERS Development Squad began their Reserve League campaign with a win at Queen of the yesterday.
The young Gers travelled to Palmerston for the match and came away with three points despite going behind in the game to an early goal.
Aidan McAdams made a save early in the match, palming a header over the bar, however it wasn’t long until Queen of the South took the lead. A long ball from the keeper was flicked on, then a ball sent through for Connor Murray to score the opening goal.
The Gers could have had a penalty after an apparent hand ball within the area, but nothing was given. There were chances for Andy Dallas, Liam Burt and Serge Atakayi, before the best of the half was carved out as Atakayi fed the ball to Burt one on one, only to see his effort turned round the post.
Before the break the Light Blues continues to create chances for the equaliser as Rudden couldn’t tuck away a couple of chances, with Dallas also going close for the Gers who were in control.
Graeme Murty’s side continued to dominate early proceedings in the second half and a half chance for Stephen Kelly was quickly followed by the equalising goal.
Kelly had another shot, with cannoned off Dallas, landing perfectly for the striker who finished coolly from about twelve yards out from goal.
Further chances came and went for Kelly and for Mayo, before the Gers had the ball in the back of the net through Rudden, but it was adjudged to have been offside.
The reserve side weren’t peturbed and continued working hard and eventually found a well earned winning goal with five minutes of the match remaining.
Substitute Jack Thomson, who came on with half an hour left to play, was the architect as he fed he ball to the on rushing Dallas inside on the left and the striker slotted home for his second of the match, to win the Gers a derserved three points.
