RANGERS made it two wins from two in the new SPFL Reserve League as they demolished St Mirren at the Hummel Training Centre this afternoon.
Umar Sadiq and Andy Dallas both grabbed doubles in the rout, while there was a single strike for wide-man Serge Atakayi.
Gers set their stall out early-on in the game, playing some excellent, fast, one-touch passing around the box, while time and again, the midfield trio of Ross McCrorie, Cammy Palmer and Stephen Kelly were able to find that special pass to scythe through the Saintsβ defensive line.
The way Gers were playing, it was only a matter of time before they took the lead, and after missing good opportunities through Kelly, the lightning Serge Atakayi and first-team man Umar Sadiq, the Light Blues found a breakthrough on 17 minutes.
A wonderful ball out from McCrorie found the on-rushing Jordan Houston on the right flank, and he, in turn, released Andy Dallas, who skinned his marker and charged into the penalty box.
He cut the ball across goal, and waiting at the back post to tap home was Sadiq, who couldnβt miss from a yard out.
The good football continued, and Lee Wallace, getting a run-out as he continues his comeback from injury, played a stunning ball over the visitors defence to put Atakayi in, with the Finn testing keeper Lewis Muir with a low shot.
Muir, while strong there, wasnβt so for Gers second goal on 44 minutes. The keeper dallied on the ball, and Sadiq applied pressure before winning it from him.
After an almighty scramble, the ball eventually dropped for Dallas whose shot just slipped over the lien despite the best efforts of Muir who almost clawed it to safety.
Muir then atoned for his error to some degree in injury time at the end of the half, making a spectacular, acrobatic save to somehow touch a Lewis Mayo header over the bar.
The second half followed much the same pattern, with Gers controlling matters, although St Mirren did enjoy perhaps a little more of the ball.
The lead the home side had was added-to eight minutes after the restart. From 20-yards out, Sadiq curled an excellent free-kick around the wall only to see it cannon back off the inside of the post. There to follow-up, however, was Andy Dallas, who did well to stay onside to poke home his second of the afternoon.
Three minutes later, it was 4-0, and again, it came from a Muir error. This time he mis-controlled a back-pass which allowed Atakayi to steam in, nick the ball off his toe and fire into an empty net.
The play was only going one way, and on 77 minutes, Sadiq grabbed his second of the afternoon. Fine wing play from Liam Burt ended with him cutting the ball back into the six-yard box, and there waiting was Sadiq to apply a simple finish to make it five.
Three minutes later, some of the gloss was knocked-off the performance as St Mirren, with pretty much their only chance of the game pulled one back. Danny Finlayson was loose with the ball and allowed Cammy MacPherson in to slide the ball past Robby McCrorie.
RANGERS: Robby McCrorie; Houston, Mayo (Finlayson, 68) Bradley, Wallace (Gray, 45); McCrorie (Burt, 60), Palmer, Kelly; Dallas, Atakayi (Kennedy, 75), Sadiq.
